Why it's worth checking out

Four Mile Beach is the magnificent, sweeping beach that fronts Port Douglas, the upmarket tropical town north of Cairns. A long, golden stretch of palm-fringed sand running for — as the name suggests — about four miles, it's the centrepiece of Port Douglas and one of the most beautiful beaches in Tropical North Queensland.

The appeal is that combination of a gorgeous, expansive beach, swaying palms and a relaxed tropical atmosphere, with the town's cafes, restaurants and the marina all close by. Whether you're swimming, walking the sand, relaxing under the palms or simply soaking up the scenery, it's an idyllic spot and a highlight of any Port Douglas visit.

With a 4.6 rating from more than 1,200 reviews, it's a much-loved destination. The beach is free and open, but tropical conditions matter — marine stingers are present in the warmer months and stinger nets and safety signage apply — so it's essential to check current conditions and follow the warnings before you swim, and to take sun protection against the strong tropical sun.
