Wrights Lookout

Wrights Lookout is a lookout in Barron Gorge National Park near Kuranda, reached in the context of the park’s walking-track network. The Queensland Parks information identifies the historic McDonald track as linking Wrights Lookout with the Douglas track, making the lookout a useful destination for visitors exploring the park on foot.

The McDonald track passes in and out of rainforest and is noted for views across Barron Gorge and towards the lower Barron Falls. It is a 4.7km one-way walk graded moderate, with about two hours of walking time suggested. The track has no toilets, picnic tables or wheelchair access listed, so walkers should plan accordingly and carry enough water.

This is best suited to prepared bushwalkers, solo walkers and small groups looking for a rainforest walk rather than a serviced attraction. The wider park includes historic routes that follow older Aboriginal walking tracks across Djabugay lands, later adapted by gold miners, cattle drovers and railway workers. Visitors should stay on marked tracks, take care around steep edges and uneven ground, and remember that mobile reception can be unreliable.
