Tomb of the Pharaohs

Tomb of the Pharaohs brings ancient Egyptian history into an indoor attraction on Lake Street in Cairns North. The venue combines illustrative examples of ancient Egyptian artefacts and authentic reproductions with recreated settings inspired by the underground tombs of pharaohs and queens. It is designed as both an educational facility and an immersive cultural experience, giving visitors a way to explore one of the world’s most significant ancient civilisations without leaving Cairns.

The displays cover more than 3,000 years of Egyptian history and include recreated burial chambers, hand-crafted gold treasures, the gem-encrusted treasures associated with Queen Nefertari and King Tut, and the solid silver falcon-shaped outer coffin of King Shoshenq II. Visitors can also learn how to read hieroglyphs, see early burial tombs from Saqqara near the 4,500-year-old step pyramid, and encounter mummified animals and colossal stone statues. A photographic backdrop featuring rooms filled with golden treasures adds an interactive element to the visit.

The attraction was developed by founders Daniel Leipnik and Andrew Preston, whose stated aim is to create distinctive indoor attractions that encourage learning, cultural curiosity and time spent together. The venue’s focus is not simply on displaying objects, but on placing them within recreated environments that help explain the beliefs, craftsmanship and burial traditions of ancient Egypt. Its indoor setting and stated suitability for people of all ages and mobility levels make it an option in Cairns for families, couples, friends, school-age visitors and anyone interested in archaeology or ancient cultures. Solo visitors who prefer to take their time with interpretive displays should also find plenty to explore.

General admission is available at the Cairns North venue, with entry from 10am to 4pm and last admission at 3pm. Visitors can also choose a general admission and lunch combination, which includes lunch at the onsite aquatic-themed Squire’s Loft Restaurant. Lunch is available from 11.30am to 3pm, and tickets can be purchased at 122B Lake Street. With recreated tombs, historic themes and detailed displays under one roof, Tomb of the Pharaohs offers a focused cultural attraction for visitors wanting something different from Cairns’ outdoor experiences.
