Smithfield Conservation Park

Smithfield Conservation Park sits in Trinity Beach, around 16km north of Cairns, in the foothills of the coastal range. The small park borders Kuranda National Park and the Smithfield residential area, with tropical rainforest gullies and eucalypt woodlands creating a varied setting for time outdoors.

Shared trails are the main draw, with options for bush walking, hiking and mountain biking. The park suits visitors who want to explore on foot or by bike, whether travelling solo or with others. Dogs are permitted on leash, making it a practical option for a walk with a dog, provided visitors follow the park’s requirements.

The park is also part of a larger mountain biking story. The Queensland Government is expanding the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park to 85 kilometres, with the aim of creating a nationally significant trail network for locals, riders and regional tourism. Visitors should also be aware that myrtle rust has been found in the park. This fungal disease threatens native plants and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, so checking the latest guidance and taking steps to limit its spread is important before and during a visit.
