Kuranda Visitor Information Centre is a practical starting point for exploring Kuranda and the surrounding Cairns region. Located in Centenary Park at the top end of Coondoo Street, the centre is staffed by volunteers who know the village well, with many having lived locally for years. They can offer advice on accommodation, tours, attractions and services, as well as help visitors plan their time in Kuranda, the Atherton Tablelands and along the Savannah Way.
The centre provides a booking service, complimentary maps and regional brochures, including information to help visitors explore Kuranda on foot. Staff can also point you towards the village’s markets, rainforest walks, wildlife experiences, galleries, cafés and major attractions such as Kuranda Scenic Railway, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Kuranda Koala Gardens and Birdworld Kuranda. For visitors arriving without a fixed itinerary, it is a useful place to get an overview of what is nearby and how the different experiences fit together.
There is more to see inside than travel information. The centre has locally made artwork, gifts and books about the region, along with an interpretive area focused on the Wet Tropics. Visitors can view small live displays featuring a spider, stick insect and reptiles, and learn about local history, nature and the Traditional Owners of the area. The centre is also the current keeping place for local artefacts displayed on behalf of the Djabugay people, the Traditional Owners of the region. Enquiries can be made about Indigenous Conversations and Yarn-up Tours, offering another way to learn about Kuranda’s cultural heritage.
Kuranda Visitor Information Centre suits first-time visitors, families deciding what to do, solo travellers wanting local guidance and groups organising tours or activities. It is also useful for anyone interested in understanding the rainforest village beyond its markets and shopping streets. The centre is a Tourism Queensland accredited information centre and a member of the Queensland Information Centres Association. It is open seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm, making it a convenient planning stop during a day trip from Cairns or a longer stay in Kuranda.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.6 from 137 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
