Why it's worth checking out
Cairns Esplanade is a broad foreshore parkland in Cairns City with a mix of spaces for exercise, play, relaxing and casual gatherings. Its facilities include the Lagoon, beach volleyball courts, outdoor fitness stations, three free playgrounds and picnic areas with barbecues. Toilets, showers, lockers and parking are also available along the Esplanade, making it practical for a longer visit or an active day by the water.
Council runs eight free Active Living fitness classes on the Esplanade, with sessions designed for all fitness levels. The parklands are also available for casual use, while larger events and celebrations can be arranged through parkland hire. Barbecues are free for casual use and available daily from 6am to 9pm, giving groups and families a straightforward option for an outdoor gathering.
There is more to see on a walk than the recreation facilities. Public artworks are positioned along the Esplanade and around the Lagoon, while memorials and monuments reflect Cairns’ history. Dogs are welcome on the Esplanade, but restrictions apply around the Lagoon and surrounding parklands, as well as within two metres of playgrounds and barbecues. With playgrounds for children, fitness options for adults, open areas for groups and art and memorials for a slower stroll, the Esplanade suits families, active visitors, solo walkers and casual meet-ups.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.9 from 47 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
