Why it's worth checking out

Central Hotel Port Douglas is a pub with genuine local history. Built in 1878, it is recognised as the oldest pub in Port Douglas. Originally known as the North Australian Hotel, the building was damaged in the 1911 cyclone and rebuilt as the Central Hotel. Its two-storey Queenslander remains the distinctive old section of the venue, set alongside newer additions including open timber decks, large sail structures and tropical landscaping.

The hotel has three bars, giving visitors several spaces to settle in for a drink or meal. The historic Public Bar includes Keno and an air-conditioned pokie room, while the decks, Verandah Bar and Garden Bar offer different ways to enjoy the venue. The Garden Bar sits beneath palms in a lush garden setting, and the footpath stools provide a relaxed spot for a drink in the centre of Port Douglas. The hotel also screens AFL and advertises free nightly entertainment, adding to its role as a place for locals and visitors to meet.

Food is centred on generous pub meals made with fresh, local produce. The menu includes burgers, a fisherman's basket, steaks and seafood, alongside daily specials and lunch deals. Meals can be enjoyed throughout the hotel, whether you are after a casual feed on the deck, a drink with lunch by the Verandah Bar or a family meal in the garden. High chairs and kids menus are available, making the venue suitable for families as well as tourists and locals looking for straightforward pub dining.

Central Hotel also caters for functions ranging from informal gatherings and cocktail parties to business presentations and sit-down dinners. Larger areas can accommodate groups, while smaller parties can visit on a walk-in basis. Restaurant bookings are not being taken, so guests are asked to walk in and find a table. There are also two nearby bottle shops, including one next door at 9 Macrossan Street and another at Port Village Shopping Centre. For a historic pub experience in Port Douglas, the Central combines old Queenslander character with open-air spaces, casual dining and a broad range of uses for solo visitors, families and groups.

Spot Score

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.0 from 1,585 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
